During weeks 1 and 2, the students developed their conceptual understanding of multiplication by using the Distributive Property with marked and unmarked arrays. They also started collaborating in pairs on their Awareness Project by doing short, focused research on a topic of interest and using the factual information they found to create their own multi-step multiplication word problem and solve it using the Distributive Property.
